In case you are asking yourself, “What is an Infopreneur?”  Infopreneurs are
Internet marketers that turn information into cash.  They get paid for what they know by providing the information other people are searching for, and then reap the rewards!  In other words, they have created their own business selling information, and information products, from the comfort of their own home office.  I will explain the basics to get you started.

Millions of people search online every hour of every day looking for the information that will solve their problems, help them to make a buying  decision, improve their health, improve their lives, plan their next vacation….

anything and everything  your mind could possibly imagine.

Knowing What Information to Sell is the Key

You must know what information to sell.  Obviously it must be something that people want to buy. You don’t want to try to try to sell information that only you are interested in, but no one else is, and you don’t want to try to sell information on a topic that people won’t buy.  One example of this is information about UFO’s. This just happens to be a very popular search; however, it is not a very popular buy. People looking for UFO information usually want free information; they seldom are willing to pay for the information.

The best advice I can offer you, is to begin with a topic that you are either passionate about, knowledgeable about, or at least have a keen interested in. If your area of expertise is crocheting, American Indian pottery, the history of volcanic eruptions in Italy, training greyhounds, or whatever the case may be, start with that subject and begin your research.

Research Your Idea

Researching your idea will allow you to see if it is a feasible and profitable idea.  There isn’t much sense in spending days and weeks writing about something that isn’t in demand, and won’t reward you for your efforts. You want to work at home and make money selling your information, not sitting at home wasting time and energy just for the fun of it.

You need to find out how many other people are searching for the keywords surrounding  your topic.  You also want to research to find out if anyone is already buying information about your topic.

One way to do that is to do a Google search; look at the right hand side of the search page that comes up for your keywords.  Are there any ads there?  If there are, then that tells you people are buying information about your topic.  If people are already buying information on your topic, then it is sure that there is a market out there for the information that you want to sell. How do you know that from seeing the ads? Think about it for a moment….

Who in there right mind would be paying for expensive ads if there wasn’t anyone buying?

You also want to find out what other experts have to say about your topic. In other words, who is your competition and  what is your competition doing?

Doing your research is a crucial step in finding out if you will be able to sell your idea, or not.  This will help you decide which topic is the best for you to build a website about.  Micro Niche Finder is the “must have tool” that is the best for assisting you with researching your ideas. It will show you the best idea to go with.  It will show you by comparison and it shows what keywords or long tail phrases have the least competition with it’s “Strength of Competition” (SOC) feature. It saves tons of time and money in your research time.

When researching, narrow your search down from a broad term on your topic to a smaller niche within your main category. You can do this by targeting a specialized product or service, to a specific population or demographic. As an example, you might want to target the Latino population in Boulder, Colorado with information on employment, or medical insurance, or some other every day product or service.

Let’s Brainstorm a Topic

This will give you an idea of how the process works. Let’s say for example, you have done your diligent keyword research and have discovered that there isn’t very much information, or websites, being  published about the area you live.

Now, of course, you know the local area where you live much better than someone who doesn’t live there, and perhaps lives thousands of  miles away. If someone wanted to visit your local area, they would research online for the insider information on where to go, what to do, where to stay, and where to eat when they arrive in your area.

I had to do this all of the time when I was traveling as a Sales Consultant.  I traveled all over the country conducting promotional retail sales for retail establishments. You would be amazed at how difficult it is to find real information about local areas in the United States.  This idea will work in any place in the world, not just the U.S.A.

If you live in the city, state, or country that the searchers are thinking about visiting, you have the first hand knowledge about the best local places to visit, to stay, and to eat that are off the usual tourist beaten path. I know that I got sick of Ramada Inns and Hampton Inns while traveling and would look for homier type rentals since I had to stay in the area for 4 to 6 weeks at a time.

Examples of  What They May Want to Know:

1. Interesting Sights to Visit

You could easily create an informational travel website, writing a page about each topic, and make recommendations about what sites to visit and which tourist traps to avoid. Do you have any museums worth visiting or any historical sites of interest near you? Include anything else that may be interesting in your area such as the blueberry or chili festival or the Amish
farm that gives tours a mile outside your town.

2. Restaurants

Perhaps you know an economical restaurant with superb food.  Having eaten at just about every place in town, you know what restaurants have great food, and which ones are overrated dives. Write a page with a short review of the most popular places to eat, or perhaps the least known, but best places to eat  Include your opinion as whether or not you would recommend eating there.

If you haven’t been to some of the most popular places, this is a good excuse to go. You could then write your review on the ambiance, service and quality of the food you were served.  If you don’t like the place you could add it as a place to avoid, and why you do not recommend it.

3. Hottest Night Clubs

Write another page on the hottest night spots in town with information on what bands play on what nights.  Give a little background on the local bands that play at each club.  Include information on cover charges, if any, best nights to go, and why you like the club. If the club has a karaoke night you could write about that too. Perhaps they have a ” wet t-shirt contest” one night a week.

4. Best Bed & Breakfast

Often people prefer to stay a few days at a bed and breakfast rather than at a hotel. You my be able to make arrangements with the owner to give each guest that makes reservations through your site a 10% discount while paying you a 10% finders fee, or other similar arraignment .

Include photographs of  the property and the rooms that are available. List the prices and the 800 phone number.

5. Hotels

What hotels are in your area and which ones do you recommend and why? Include a photo of each hotel property that you are recommending.

6. RV Parks & Camping sites

Many people like tooling around the country in their RVs.  If you have a nice RV park in your area, you could include a page about it. If you live in a rural area you could provide information on the best camping, hunting, boating or fishing in your area. Where is the best place to get live bait, cold beer, rent a boat or put up a tent?

7. Hiking & Bike Trails

Many people want to participate in these activities not only while on vacation, but also when traveling for business.  Include this information with photos, maps and directions on how to find them, the parking that is available, rest stops, bike rentals, length of the trails, handicap accessibility, etc.

8. Set Up Advertising Fees

Once your site is built you could drop off business cards to local business along with a sheet of paper listing your fees to advertise their business on your site.

This is just an idea off the top of my head to get the brain juices flowing. Whatever idea you decide to go with, once you have completed your research you will need a name for your business and a website or blog to with which to sell your information.

Register Your Domain Name

Once you have decided on the topic you are going to write the information about, you will need a website or a blog to sell your information. The first thing you need to do is select a business name and register a domain name.  I use NameCheap to register domain names. They are a much better registry than GoDaddy.  GoDaddy has a tendency to shut down sites on a whim.

Be sure when picking a domain name to try to get one that has you main keyword within the name.  This will help the search engines find you for your keyword.

Get a Hosting Company

You will need a hosting company as a server for your website. I use, and highly recommend, HostMonster.com as my web server.  They have low fees, but they have unlimited bandwidth, host unlimited domains, superb customer service, and so much more.  If you are new at putting up websites you will want this type of customer service. They can be called at their 800 number 24/7  for help or you can use their online chat whenever you need help.

Build a Website or Blog

Next you will need to get your website built. The easiest and best software tool going these days is XSitePro Website Builder. You can get a professional website up and running in no time without having any prior HTML knowlege. You can build websites, blogs, membership sites, anything you want can be done with ease. It is all point and click, copy and paste, drag and drop. It doesn’t get any easier.

I hope this will give you a better idea on how to get started becoming an Infopreneur by selling information products from home.
