Creating a line of scented bath salts and scented bath salt scrubs could become a very lucrative home business idea. Women love to be pampered; that’s a given, and scented bath salts are a wonderful way to add fragrance to bathwater.  Bath salts are also beneficial to the skin as a detoxifier, because the minerals in the bath salts have a drawing effect. Fragrant salt scrubs are an excellent way to increase circulation and to exfoliate the skin.

Most important?  Women love using them.

colored-bath-saltsWith the economy at an all time low, people are looking for inexpensive, yet thoughtful gifts that they will be able to give to their Mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, etc.  This is where you come in.

You could start a home business assembling scented bath salts and scented salt scrubs in attractive containers with creative salt scoops attached to the
containers.  This is not only a great gift at Christmas, but is also a gift that is appropriate and appreciated any time of the year. This could become quite profitable for you. Natural, handcrafted, quality home spa products are always a good seller.

You will need a variety of natural sea salts that can be bottled for the bath. Search for natural sea salts in a variety of colors to offer as your “natural” scented bath salt line. Also search for all natural food coloring that can be used to change the color of the salt from it’s natural off-white color (or from it’s bleached-white state) into soft pastel hues that will add to the decor of any woman’s bathroom. Epsom salts, as we all know, are a very beneficial bath soak and can also be colored and scented for the bath.

You will also need to assemble a collection of essential oils to add to the containers of sea salt. The essential oils are the key element that will give
the bath salts and salt scrubs their lovely scents.  The fragrant bath salts
and scrubs could be marketed as aromatherapy scents when using the right combination of essential oils.

High quality oils such as olive oil, sweet almond oil and jojoba oil will also be needed to add to the scented salt scrubs.  As beneficial as salt is to the skin, they also have a drying effect, so the oils will need to be added to the salt scrubs to create a restorative balance in your product.

Create a Brand Logo for Your Products

Learn to create attractive labels on your computer that will become your brand labels, or hire a designer to create them for you. Business cards and stationary with your logo printed on them should also be created to match your product labels.

Don’t Go Overboard at First

Have a business plan and a business budget written down that you can follow.  Start out small with the quantifies of supplies ordered, until your home business becomes established.  As you make money selling your products, re-invest into your business with larger quantity orders.

Once your scented bath salt business  become established you could branch out to a high end line by purchasing only the finest salts from France, the South Pacific, Egypt, and other exotic counties.

Your Products are Only as Limited as Your Imagination

After some time of success you could expand your home business and branch out into creating another line of natural bath oil products.  It is possible that your products could eventually blossom into a complete line of home spa products.

Another possibility would be to expand into a completely different salt line such as a gourmet salt used for cooking. Gourmet salts are flavorful and are very trendy right now.  As more and more people discover the variety of salts that come from exotic places all over the world, the more lucrative your business could become.

Selling Your Home Spa Products

Once you have your line of scented bath salts and scented salt scrubs created, it will be time to sell your products.  Here are a few suggestions that I am sure you will be able to expand upon, once to start thinking about it, and become excited about your new home business:

  1. Build a Website where you products can be showcased attractively. Offer your customers the ability to customize their orders with their choice of fragrances and colors.
  2. Visit boutiques in your local area that will be will allow you to leave sample products at the register. Offer the business owner a percentage of the sales.
  3. Offer them at small home parties that are set-up through “word of mouth” networking through friends. Offer hostess gifts to the women that are willing to host the parties for you.
  4. Put up an eBay store with your products.
  5. Create a Squidoo lens to show off your new product line with links that will take the visitor to your main website.

Choose the selling method(s) that you can be the most comfortable with. You can always expand to other methods as your time and business permits. You could end up enjoying a lifetime business of selling scented bath salts, bath scrubs, and other handcrafted home spa products to those women that love to pamper themselves.
