Getting backlinks pointing to your site is one of the SEO tactics used to get a steady flow of targeted traffic to your site.  Doing the work necessary to create these backlinks can be a full time job all by itself.

Some of the more popular methods include visiting blogs and leaving relevant comments (no spamming, please); building Squidoo lenses and leaving comments on other Squidooers lens; building HubPages and leaving comments on other HubPage members pages; bookmarking your sites to Web2.0 social sites; submitting to website and/or blog directories; and writing and submitting articles to article directories.

All of these methods will create more backlinks to your sites, but they do take a lot of time.  In the long run, taking the time to do these tasks will pay off over time.  Accept that this is just a way of life when you are an Information Marketer working to build your online credibility with the search engines.

If you have disposible income it is possible to hire an SEO expert, but even that takes time. Searching to find an “expert” that really is an “expert” and is qualified for the job, can be very confusing if you don’t have a clue as to what an SEO expert is suppose to be.

Another thing, is that you can’t just throw money at an SEO “expert” and let them have at it.  For example, you have to check on what they are doing to ensure they are using the right keywords, placed in the right positions on your site.

Some of these experts make it sound like getting backlinks is a very difficult thing to do, when in reality it isn’t that hard. It just takes time doing the work is all, but don’t let that discourage you from doing the task that are necessary to create the backlinks yourself.

Speed Up the Backlinking Process

There is another way that can help you to speed up the backlinking process, if used properly, and that is by adding your site URL to backlink sites. I am listing a few links I have discovered, that you may be interested in trying out too.

Each of the backlink sites that I have listed here can help your web site in several different ways. Some will link directly to your web site and some will link sites within their network. The second type will form smaller networks , all linking to each other and to you.  These types will use your domain as a reference.

WARNING:
DO NOT go hog wild joining every single backlink site you can find all at one time. Do it every few days or so, to make it seem more natural.  Read the information for each backlink site before making up your mind which ones you would like to use. I am not recommending any of them yet, as I haven’t had a chance to thoroughly test them all yet.  I just finished the research to find them.

The amount of links your site receives over time is important.  Most importantly, you don’t want to build up a bunch of links very quickly and then stop or slow way down. Try to keep the amount of links coming in to your sites increasing at a  consistent pace. Google sees decreases in links over time as your site loosing importance and relevance in its niche.  It also notices a too rapid increase. So, I advise linking to a couple of the sites listed one day, then submit some articles over the next couple of days., and then linking to a few more sites.

One more thing I need to mention is that these backlink sites will only help you with real web sites that you own the domain on. They will not work with free sites like Blogger, eBay Stores, HubPages, Squidoo, Weebly or Tumblr.
All of these shared sites I just mentioned should only be used as backlink sites anyway.  They should be pointing to your money site, where you are paying the web hosting.

AboutUs

www.aboutus.org

AboutUs is a wiki based system whose goal to create a guide to all of the web sites on the Internet.  (Pretty big dream, but hey, look at Twitter).  A listing here will provide you with one dofollow link and two nofollow links. Your listing will also be categorized based on your web sites meta tags and you will gain links into your Domain Tools, Compete and BuiltWith profiles.

If your web site is less than six months old, their system will auto generate your listing by retrieving data from your web site. I highly recommend registering and completing the profile yourself with more detailed and accurate information.

Enter the following URL into your web browser, replacing “domain.com” with your domain name:

http://www.aboutus.org/www.domain.com

Alexa

www.alexa.com

Alexa is one of the best known services for collecting statistical data about web sites.  An entry on Alexa will supply you with one dofollow link and two nofollow links. You will also gain a link to your * Internet Archive profile.

Enter the following URL into your web browser, replacing “domain.com” with your domain name:

When submitting your web site here, you will gain a dofollow link and a nofollow link. Your listing will automatically be included on various tag pages based on the keywords in your web sites meta tag. It will also create nofollow links into your Alexa, Quantcast, Compete and Internet Archive profiles.

Enter the following URL into your web browser, replacing “domain.com” with your domain name:

http://www.cubestat.com/www.domain.com

Dmoz

www.dmoz.org

Many of you may already have a one-way link online with Dmoz. A listing in the dmoz.org directory (Open Directory Project) is one of the most valuable links you could have, so if you haven’t registered with them already, be sure that you do. The dmoz link provides a highly relevant, on topic, one way link.  That is one of the main reasons people work very hard to get their links in dmoz.
